We experimented briefly with J2E during this week's session. We had some connectivity problems and could not figure out how to upload a picture. It looked like it was expected that we would upload an image from an internal collection. An advantage of J2E seems to be that you can put together different kinds of files to create a mash-up website.

This was a difficult task for me - mainly because we had some real issues with wireless connectivity in the classroom that evening. It got me thinking about the reliance that we have on technology and how we can be hamstrung when it fails.
ReplyDeletei did some searching about the issues surrounding technical problems in IT. Educauses top 10 IT issues for 2011 (http://www.educause.edu/EDUCAUSE+Review/EDUCAUSEReviewMagazineVolume46/TopTenITIssues2011/228654) has funding as number 1! Number 1, not teaching and learning, not security, not curriculum disconnects, but funding. And it was the same last year. But guess what - it will be up there, near, or at, the top EVERY year. It will never go away. As newer technology is developed, better systems, faster wireless, funding will be required.
If it makes us feel any better, we aren't alone here:http://tsl.pomona.edu/articles/2011/10/7/news/451-frustrations-persist-over-pomona-wireless-internet-access
@Tony, thanks for your interesting insight! Yes, this in-class task was difficult to complete because of the connectivity problems.
ReplyDeleteIf we had been doing the activity with a class of children, it probably would have meant us having to abandon the activity entirely that session.
Do you feel that funding issues are always about not having enough funding, or do you think that schools sometimes do not make smart decisions about how to allocate funding?
